so much for mini posts

So after I got a root canal…yup, that happened today…I went on a first date.  Who does that?!  Who goes to get a root canal before a first date?  Actually who goes on a date between a root canal and a visit to the psych ward at Abington Hospital to see a friend in need?  Me.  That’s who.

At the date I had (in addition to a couple margaritas) truffle guacamole.  If you haven’t tried the truffle guac at El Vez you are missing one of the most divine combinations ever created.  Just go get it if you don’t believe me.  My date had never had truffles before and he is in for a surprise the next time he has them, because this variation is so damn good.

After the psych ward it was home to put together a leftover meal of beef brisket (again compliments of Trader Joe’s) with gorgonzola, leftover homemade red sauce (see recipe below and then die because it’s so easy and so good) with rice pasta and an unforgettably simple salad with arugula, toasted pine nuts, basil-infused olive oil, white balsamic and avocado.

Red sauce:

Combine canned diced tomatoes, tomato paste, canned tomato sauce, fresh tomato chunks, basil, olive oil, salt and pepper and give it love.  Just before serving sprinkle parm on it.  Honestly, start with good ingredients and infuse love in as you cook and you are guaranteed to have a good meal (especially if you throw on a couple glasses of red wine…Dos Picos, you rock).
